Today I turned in my keys to my first grown up apartment here in Florida. On July 4th it will mark a year since I hopped in my little Jeep with my mom and headed down to Florida to try something new. In a little under one years time I have accomplished a lot of things. Initially I moved to Florida to pursue what I thought was a sealed deal to teach. I was totally wrongs. From the start things didn't go at all as planned and I struggled every which way to try and make my teaching career work. It just didn't happen. Luckily, I was able to land another job with the largest credit union in central Florida and I'm extremely grateful for that. The job isn't my dream job, but for being brand new to the state with no prior banking experience, I was hired and this company has potential. By October of 2011 I was settled into my new job and things were going well, but my apartment living was about to make a 180 with some unforeseeable circumstances. I wasn't sure what was going to happen. I'm not going to go into details, but lets just say that moving home to New York wasn't out of the question... Eventually November came and went. December came and I was really feeling great. I hosted our branch Christmas party, I was making friends, and Florida was starting to feel more like home. I went to our huge company Christmas party and felt like a million dollars. I was looking forward to a quiet Christmas with 3 days off and couldn't be happier because shortly there after I would be going home. Here's where the best part happens.
I working and it was a couple days before Christmas when a member came to our branch to make a deposit in the DT. He was chit chatting with me and we were talking about Christmas and he asked me if I had any plans to which I shared how I don't and I'm just going to make the best of having a few days off. He said he was going to do the same and wished me a great holiday. Not 15 minutes later, he called our branch and asked me to join him for Christmas if I wanted to since we didn't have any family here. I said sure and thought wow, this is cool. What did I have to lose? He wasn't a complete stranger because I would see him all the time at my job.
Two days later we met up at Chilli's for some drinks and talked for 2 hours straight! The next day he made me dinner at his house. The day after that was Christmas eve so spent the late night eating xmas cookies and watching all the essential Christmas movies. It was so much fun. On Christmas Day he took me out on his boat and we spent the most gorgeous day on the inner coastal waters with dolphins jumping along the boat! It was like something from a movie. We docked at a lighthouse and walked around it reading the various monuments and just looking at everything. He has seen it already, but it was all new to me. Just the same it was great.
Long story short, this man and I have now been together for 6 months and it has been so wonderful. I never thought it would happen for me. I wasn't even looking for someone and he literally showed up at just the right time.
We are now planning a glorious vacation to the Florida Keys in September and as a matter of fact it's already paid off!!! Nothing like looking forward to something and having it all paid for. I don't know what else is in store for us, but I am more than willing to find out. It's funny how you just know who's right for you and who isn't. My advice, if you're constantly unsure, then don't waste your time. He or she is out there and he will come along at just the right moment. I can't wait to write my blog on July 8th when it marks exactly one year that I crossed that Florida state line. I have more things to share at that time. For now, here's a picture of us and the boys... :)
